A charming mid-18th century English Delft blue and white salt cellar, dating to around 1750.
Of octagonal form with gently raised sides, the interior is hand painted with a delicate floral spray in soft cobalt blue. The rim is edged with a repeating zig-zag border, while the exterior continues the foliate decoration — a lovely example of provincial English Delftware of the period.
The tin-glazed earthenware body has that slightly creamy tone and soft glaze pooling typical of early English Delft, giving it real warmth and character.
There is a small chip to the base, entirely commensurate with age and honest use. It does not detract from display and is consistent with 18th century examples of this type.
A beautifully decorative and collectible early table piece — perfect for a Delftware collection or as part of an 18th century tablescape.
